Jazz Band

Director:  Doug Meeuwsen   Manager:Tammy Jackson

The Mission Viejo High School Jazz Band consists of high school musicians from freshman through senior years. Entry is by audition and most of the band members also participate in other groups in the high school music program such as marching band, wind ensemble and orchestra. The band plays a variety of music including swing, latin, modern and many ‘big band’ standards. Much of the music attempted approaches college level in its complexity.

For information about the music we play, teaching schedules, questions concerning band members etc. please contact Mr. Meeuwsen.

Please visit Mr. Meeuwsen's web site at www.lipshurt.com. The site includes recordings and pictures from M.V.H.S. as well as information about Mr. Meeuwsen's other musical endeavors that may be of interest to both students and parents.

Friday, April 4 - Sunday April 6th our jazz band participates in the Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey, CA. It is a prestigious High School competition that is held every year and it is challenging to be selected to participate. The jazz band competes with 12 other high schools from around the country. The performances are incredible and the talent of the high school jazz band musicians is amazing.
