Welcome to the Mission Viejo High School
Instrumental Music 2007 - 2008 Season.

The Mission Viejo High School Music
program is one of the most successful in the Western States. As well as the
World-Class Mission Viejo High School Marching Band, Color Guard and the 2001
& 2007 World Champions Drum
Line, other groups including the Jazz Band, Orchestra and Winter Guard
were placed in many major competitions last season. Much of this success
is due in part to the strong support from all the volunteer parents in
the Mission Viejo High School Music Booster's Association as well as the dedicated and talented
teaching staff. We hope that all MVHS music student parents will continue to
provide the much needed support for such a great program!

Calgary Meeting

The Calgary 2008 trip is fast
approaching and we are busy with the
plans. We’d like to share those with you
at a Parent Meeting on Wednesday, May
14, at 7:30 p.m. in the MVHS MPR. We
will have the most updated itinerary for
you as well as airline information,
t-shirts samples to verify sizes, and
more. In the next few days, we’ll send
out forms that need to be completed and
turned back in to us at that meeting (or
earlier!). Students are also welcome to
attend the meeting. If there is a
question you would like us to address at
the meeting, send us an e-mail, and
we’ll be able to address it for the good
of the group.
***Copies of Passports
Urgently Needed***
Thank you to those of you that have
already sent in copies of your
passports. We need copies of the main
page (black and white is fine) because
we have to supply certain pieces of
information to the airlines for our
tickets. We must have that
information by May 21. It is their
deadline, not ours, but if we don’t have
it, it will interfere with our
ticketing. You can turn it in at the
Parent Meeting, however, if you can mail
it sooner, it would be appreciated
(address is below).

Perform at Save Our Schools Rally

A huge rally was held at
the MVHS Stadium on Tuesday 8th to protest the
recently announced budget cuts (see below). Our very
own drumline started the event by playing Cadence as
they marched in front of the capacity crowd. The
event was so well attended that many were not able
to get in because of the traffic that it generated
and lack of nearby parking. The drummers performed a
stand-still run of their 2008 show and then returned
for the finale and played Cadence once more as the
cheerleaders formed the letters S.O.S. (Save our
Schools) on the field. There was a live segment
covering the event on the 10:00pm KTLA news with
video clips including our snare line marching down
the track.

Music Program Parents:
As you know the SVUSD is considering a $19M
budget reduction for the District. While
this does not directly impact the MVHS Music
Programs it could:
1) As teacher reductions are made, MVHS
Musical Staff could be replaced with other
teachers with more seniority or even
reduced.
2) Musical programs at the Elementary and
Middle School level could be reduced or
cancelled. Without this feeder of new
students interested in music, you will see
the award winning MVHS music program
decrease in size and quality over the coming
years.
How can you help?
Sacramento must hear from parents saying a
our children come first and a 10% cut across
all state agencies is not watching out for
them!

| WITH SINCERE APPRECIATION . . . .
On behalf of John Hannan, Music
Director of Mission Viejo High School; the
MVHS Music Boosters Association; and all of
our Music Students, we would like to extend
our sincere appreciation and thanks to all
of the schools, booster organizations,
students, and parents for their generous
donations and support during the recent
Southern California wildfires and the
cancellation of our Marching Band Field
Tournament. Your understanding of our plight
and your generosity made a huge difference
to our Music Program this year, and we are
all extremely grateful. Thank you all for
supporting music education! Happy Holidays
and all the best for the coming New Year!

Dominos
Pizza Card
As a new "General
Fund" fundraiser this year, the Music
Boosters have purchased 1,000 Dominos Pizza
Cards. These cards sell for $10 each; are
valid for pizza purchases at the Dominos
Pizza on La Paz & Marguerite and in Rancho
Santa Margarita; and entitle the buyer to a
"2 for 1" pizza deal on 10 separate
purchases! We are encouraging all music
students to sell these cards to family,
friends, and neighbors. Mr. Hannan will be
hosting a BBQ for the section with the
highest percentage of students who sell
cards. This
has the potential to be a huge fundraiser
for the Music Boosters if all music students
participate! We hope that you will help our
fundraising efforts by purchasing and
selling these cards. Please see Wendy Adams
at the Stadium during Monday Night Practice
to purchase cards or to obtain additional
information, or contact Wendy at
VPWaysandmeans@mvhsmusic.com.
Update !
As
of 10/8 the Color Guard is leading to race for the BBQ ! |

YAHOO! Group
I have recently started a
Yahoo group for MVHS Music parents. This is a
way for parents to share ideas and information
(including photos) with each other. Other uses
might be arranging car pools, buying or selling
used instruments and tuxedos etc.
